MEDIA LIBRARY | INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE
Traditional libraries were built as static spaces contrary to the dynamic character of its young users making them drab an uninviting. Bookscapes@Valour is a dynamic space that is able to mold itself to the requirements of its users across all scales of time. The design for this library is shaped around the four C’s of modern-day education viz. Creativity, Collaboration, Critical Thinking and Communication.
The design is developed around a central element called the ‘Wall of Perception’; an art installation which presents itself differently from different angles within the library and subtly separates the entire library space into two distinct zones. On the one side are books housed in five small enclaves of a relatable scale, while on the other side is the learning hall for assimilation, collaboration and individual learning. The book enclaves are reconfigurable and offer shelving of different heights for ease of access to the younger and the older students. Each book zone is furnished with different configurations of sitting creating a cozy environment surrounded by books for a quick ‘dip’. The learning hall on the other side, offers varying configurable spaces to suit activities for tasks as well as for learning. Care is taken to develop each element as a creative piece which inspires and indulges the user. The tables in the ‘doing area’ are made of white-board surfaces to enable collaboration, while the various geometries allow students to reconfigure and reshape spaces.
